The Penna Lane vineyard is located 10 kilometres south of Clare in the Skilly Hills, adjacent to the Spring Gully Conservation Park. The first wines under the Penna Lane label were produced in 1998 and the transformed dairy opened as a cellar door on January 1, 2000.

The vineyard is planted at an elevation of approximately 450 metres which provides for a long slow ripening period, which results in intense varietal fruit flavours. The fruit is usually among the last picked in the Clare Valley. The vines are virtually dry-grown, receiving only supplementary irrigation in the dry years.

Right from the very first vintage, the Riesling has won awards and outstanding reviews including: four trophies, nine medals, six reviews above 90 points and a silver at the Hyatt International Riesling Challenge in Canberra.  The 2004 was the first ever white wine to win Winestate Wine of the Year and Riesling of the Year.
