Winemaker: Michael Downer
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Cabernet Sauvignon
The Downer family have been farming the fertile soils of the Onkaparinga Valley since 1939 and in this time there have been many cattle grazing, hens laying, potatoes grown, flowers picked and since 1998 they have been passionately caring for vines, and making great wines.
The vineyard is located behind the township of Oakbank in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, producing excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Now, with 15 vintages under their belt the results speak for themselves. They carefully hand prune, shoot thin, bunch thin, and hand pick to produce the best possible wines that show the unique characters of their place.
Winemaker, Michael, is the youngest in the family and when the wine bug hit, he never looked back. After studying Oenology he went to work for a top Winery in the Adelaide Hills before embarking on a globe trotting adventure. Touring the great wine regions of the world with harvest experience in Barolo, Italy, he then returned to Oz with vintages in Great Western, Victoria and other local wineries before finally joining the family winery in 2012. He is now Murdoch Hills winemaker, mum is as proud as ever and he does make some great wines!
