In 1975 Ken Semmler replanted the St. Jakobi vineyard block owned by Oscar Semmler (Ken's father and Wayne Dutscke's grandfather). In 1990, after ten years experience with major wine companies and six vintages overseas, Wayne returned to produce a Chardonnay and a red blend under the brand WillowBend.  In 1995, just for fun, a 100% Shiraz was produced instead scoring five-stars in Winestate magazine and finding a place in the taste off for the 1997 Winestate Wine of the Year. This led the family to 'rev up' production and thus Dutschke Wines was born.

Dutschke Wines are now highly regarded and much sought after classic Barossa reds - although production remains small and there are no plans to become a large producer.
